I have a 52reg C200K saloon Avantegarde SE. On one of the alloy wheels the lacquer is staring to bubble around the rim and the centre cap and dirt has got underneath making it look really bad. In some parts the lacquer has actually peeled off.

I am sure this is a common fault. My question is: -

1) Would Mercedes UK do anything for this as a goodwill gesture?
2) Should I get the wheel refurbed
3) Should I buy a new alloy from Merc and keep the defective one as a spare. How much is 1 alloy wheel from Mercedes?

Thanks in advance for your help
Rich

In reply:

1. - No. This is a common problem with alloys and isn't covered.

2. - Entirely up to you. It's a purely cosmetic problem. Probably cost about £60 to get fixed.

3. - Check the parts centre, but probably about £200 - £300 per wheel. I had a quote for some 17" AMG rims and a full set was £1750 from the stealers!

Thanks for the advice.

All 4 wheels are starting to bubble (i.e. the lacquer) - not good at all when the car has only done 30k miles. I am going to go and see the dealer on the off chance that there is some good will on this - clearly it is a fault.

Anyone else had any joy out of warranty?

Thanks

Hi Rich, Not sure where you are but a company called www.Spitandpolish.co.uk in Kent do a brilliant job and best of all, they can do it on site in a day rather than sending your wheel away through a 3rd party. Wheels seemed better than original finish!

Thanks - I am in East Yorks so Kent is a bit too far for me.

My Dad is about to place an order for a new C class sport. He just doesn't know which engine to go for - have narrowed it down to C200k or C220CDI. The thing is he doesn't do much mileage so economy is not really an issue. What are your thoughts?

We are thinking of trying to pursuade the merc dealer to repair my alloys prior to doing the deal!!

from personnel experience and advice given on here the re finishing does not last long. Take a look at the chrome paint now being used on all of the new MB you cant tell that it not clear lacquer and it will last for ever if you do not kerb them
