Alloy Wheel Spefication

Hi,

Was looking at changing the standard 16" alloys on my CLK to 17" or 18" but was finding it difficult to guage what specifications I would need.

I have found what appears to be a very good reference guide at the following address;

I purchased some tyres last year and I felt pushed or rushed in to buying them.
I new I wanted Eagle F1's but I was not sure what size and spec to buy.
I was running on 225/40/18 all the way around.
I wanted a bit more rubber to cover the alloy (the alloys use to stick out further than the rubber on the old tyres) so I new I wanted wider tyres.
the fella put two new rears 245/40/18 which were great cause first this then made me legal again and second cause it was new rubber to wear down ...;-)

When I got home and looked at the car it looked as though I was running on low profiles on the front with TRACTOR tyres on the rear. Not alot I could do cause I was off on holiday and needed the car.
I have lived with these tyres now for over a year (and it still bugs me!)
I need new rubber on the front now.
A freind of mine sent me some figs on original tyre size and mine.


original out of the shop:
Ft = 205/55/16
Rr= 225/50/16

Tyres at the moment:
Ft= 225/40/18
Rr= 245/40/18

Difference:

Ft= 0.79% (5mm)
Rr= 3.49% (22mm)


What do these results mean?

I'm guessing I really should't have bought the rears this big..:-(

So the original were
Ft = 205/55/16
Rr= 225/50/16
Then tyou went to
Ft= 225/40/18
Rr= 245/40/18

The rears should be 245/35/18 that would give you the correct height all round

225 x 40 = 90mm height
245 x 35 = 85.75mm height so only 4.25 mm difference.

As it was you had 10mm bigger profile on the 245/40/18

Saying all of this, they are too big and the speedo will be slightly out
