I just put some 17inch wheels on my 1993 220CE.
They were 7.5 inch wide, and 35mm offset.
For mine, 225/45 17inch tyres were the same rolling radius as the 195/65 15inch originals.
I put 235/45 17inch tyres on, and they look mean, but on one side, the tyre dose scuff part of the plastic inner arch with some lock on. I did have a "fat bloke" in the passenger seat, going round a roundabought, etc etc.
Having seen this, you should go for the 225/45 17s, without problems.
LOADS of people put the AMG 17s on E classes, some even do 18s, havnt heard of anyone else getting any problems.
(my inner arch liner dose look further into the wheel on that side than the other one though, it could be bent or something.)
Has anyone else successfully run 225/45/17s on a W124, especially a saloon, and any comments re. handling, cornering, ride quality, rubbing or arches, tyre wear, etc.?
This may be of help to you,
My car was specified with 7-hole 17" wheels, although it appears to have been delivered with 15" 8-hole????
However, your local MB dealer may be able to give you the spec and offset which would have been used, try quoting him the Special Version code 664 for a 1992 W124, which is the number on my Vehicle Datacard referring to " Light Alloy Wheel 7-hole Star Design 17 Inch"
Regards
Richard
