Probably between 85 - 100 depending on spec. Why?

alternator

The reason i asked is because i have installed 2 kicker l7 15inch subs and a kicker zx1500.1 amp, and the manual recommended an alternator with at least 140 amps. i previously had it in my bmw 325 which had a 90 amp alternator.

Thanks

I will change my answer to that you are keeping the amps in the car, that must be some sound

yes it certainly is some serious bass line. Sounds much better than it did in my BM.

Find the makers label (probably bosch) and have a look at their website for data.
Music making machinery has to produce high power only during the loadest parts of the signal, with even the rowdiest of music the ratio of average to peak power is about 100:1, so your 1500 what amp will be putting an average of 15 to 30 watts into the speakers and in consequence draw a few amperes of supply current. You dont realy need a hairy alternator to accomodate the amp just a very low supply impedance to the DC input of the amplifier, one of those silly looking 1 Farad caps with a light in it will certainly help with such a beast of an amp. If you are going to fit one find the one with the lowest ESR spec, low ESR is better than a built in lamp or voltmeter.

PS
did you know that the human ear only needs 1 nano watt of power to hear normal sounds very very loudly?
And that the human ear is 1/10,000,000 less sensitive to 100Hz that it is to a babies cry?
This means that if you are in the close proximity of equipment that can produce high levels of low frequency sound waves you will overload your ears and you will go DEAF, may be not tommorow but before you get to 50, something which is quite common in the section of recording industry where they make the music that they play on killowatt sound systems. Find such a recording waller and whisper to him, I bet he replies What?
To even start to be efficient dynamic systems need to have a minimum space of 1/2 a wavelength to operate in, the wave length of 30 Hz is 30 feet, is your cars interior 15 feet long? Thats why it will probably be louder out of the car than in it.
PPS
Please dont use it to mask other peoples choice of listening material, they almost certainly won't want to hear yours.

Having spent most of my life in the top end sound business and mixing consoles I can only agree 100%. Look after those ears, once they have gone they are gone forever, this excludes the damage to your internal organs with some of the low frequencies
