I have a 1983 300D and I get alternator feedback in the radio, but only when the headligts are on. If the radio is off the noise is quite faint, however when the radio is on it is quite a bit louder no matter what the volume of the radio is set at. The strangest part about it is, when the headlights are turned on the radio itself gets a bit louder and it seems to be only in the left channel. I have installed a noise filter on the radio which had no effect, and recently replaced my alternator with no effect.
