Does anyone know if there's a way of checking the level / quantity left ?

Or do we just wait for the "Go see your dealer" message ?

"What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is designed specifically for this application – to be
safe, easy to store and use and to reduce emissions. AdBlue
is a colourless liquid made up of 67.5% demineralised water
and 32.5% urea.
In the SCR process its role is as a reduction
agent that reacts with, and neutralises, nitrogen oxides (NOx)."

So its basically little more than, er, p1ss

Does all diesel engine need Adblue. ??

It's only used in Bluetec cars. First used by Merecdes in about 2006 - 2007 (?)

It's used to reduce the quantity of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust.

RATS !

Just giving the car a quick check-over before setting off for a short holiday in the South.

Switch the ignition on to check fuel . . .

And get the dreaded Adblue warning - visit your dealer.

Well, I suppose it had to come sooner or later. Just a bad time for it. :(

Mercedes adblue is cheap enough, at £11.69 inc vat for 10L.
Your local dealer ought to have it in stock.

Bit the bullet and went to dealer - £15 for 10L over here.

Was tempted to get it from a pump at the service-station (only 26p per liter), but chickened out.

I would only use the MB fluid too, it has a very specific ratio of water to urea, which I understand is different to the generically supplied additives.

So does pee. What harm can it do ? Saves the need for loo stops, if you fit a tube into the cabin.

Anyone needing to top up their Adblue, the 10L can from MB is A004989042012. It comes with a short little spout which is useless.
Mecedes supply a screw-on transfer pipe A0005832204 which works very well. ca. £5.

If you're very careful, you could just pour it into the tank - there's no special fitment needed.

Works out at a bit less than 1L per 1000 km (625 miles).

I read that it is very corrosive and any spillages in the wheel well should not be left, so probably best to stick to the transfer pipe.

That's what MB told me.

I thought the transfer pipe was just an MB gimmick, but, having done it, it certainly makes the operation cleaner and safer for the paintwork. ;)
