Am I alone in thinking that the new body styling coming out of Stuttgart is not as pleasant on the eye as it used to be . It seems to have injected a more angular and agressive personna to the cars, almost akin to vehicles previously that had received attention from the body styling aftermarket. When the new C class first came out I Thought that the fact I did not like it was because it is different and that in time it would grow on me, but it is not.

How do others view the new trend.

I had the same thoughts as you Splatt. I think that a lot of the cars are starting to look like this, in particular there are similarities to some of the new Bmws and Toyota camry.
I think that in time it will grow on us but it is not a particularly ellegant style
The car won Wheels of the year award over here and now that they are being made in Germany once again I expect that there will be a return to 202 quality.

I agree I don't particularly like them. Whilst the front of the sport model looks good and the elegance ok, its the rear I can't stand if I wanted a BMW then I would buy one.
BMW's do nowt for me I can't stand them, apart from the X5

It's not that new a trend - Audi instigated all this with the 'angry mouth' redesign they introduced first on the A6 back in 2004, and then across the whole range.

Since then, the mainstream German prestige marques are all adopting these low, angular, gaping front spoilers, and attaching across a range of models, regardless of how sympathetic they are to the actual design as a whole. It's almost a competition to see who can make the most 'purposeful' (meaning threatening) looking car.

When I first saw the new C class, I thought it looked as if the old C class had been merged with a BMW and that was the result.

In some colours it looks OK, others, not so good.

IMHO it needs BIG wheels to look good. Even 17's arent up to the job. 19's to look decent and in proportion. Specially the rears.

Not as elegant\timeless as older models. Looks Like its aimed at boy racers who are getting a bit long in the tooth

The wing mirrors look like they come from a Landcruiser

I like the 204, it certainly looks more butch than the 203. I drive a 202, style that did not appeal at first but it grew on me.

I agree. I think they're awful and not in character for a Mercedes at all.

For me the last good looking mercedes is the W123. This car has aa mercedes personality and you can instantly see that it is a merc. On the new cars you have to look twice, and if it was not for the star, you would not think that it is a mercedes.
So, please stylists: bring back the mercedes look!

I really like the W204 estate - I am currently saving up as I don't like car finance.

W203 looks better than 204

I had a W203 C class but don't like the new 204 look. Looks a "cheap" option imho.

Over time I guess we'll get used to them.

Don't like the split bumper on the face-lifted SLK either. Call me an old stick in the mud! ;)

I agree with joem. I think the estate is the best looking on the market, that is why after years of trouble free and enjoyable driving of BMW's I have opted to go for the W204 estate.
