Ambient Temperature Display W210

The ambient temperature on my car shows minus figures in a range from -34 to - 20. Ive locates the sensor on front of the car and traced the wire to where it integrates with the wiring loom. Two questions:

Does any one know how to recalibrate the display?
Is this likked to the activation og the heating on the screen washer nozzles? - mine are blocked solid and ive been trying for a week to clear them and it occurred to me if the heating was on all the time it would account for how badly blocked they are

Any info would be appreciated

sounds like the sensor is up the spout.
mine read -37 most of the time.
new one not expensive and 2mins to fit.

borrow one off a mate if you can to be 100%.
mine did not need any re-calibration (210) just plug in and go.

I do not think that you can calibrate this circuit, its just a closed loop circuit of the two components, the pick up sender on the front is the most likely suspect owing to the environment it lives in

Have had a rummage over the weekend and can't see anything to do but change the sensor so I ordered one from the local MB dealership £41.21 plus vat!! ****** rip off the damn thing can't cost more than 50p to make. What really riled me was that I was made to feel that he was doing me a favour by deigning to supply me at all. This lot are worse than Porsche dealers - they rip you off but at least they are polite, knowledgeable and helpful.

Cars don't youn just love 'em;)

Hopefully dealers like that are becoming less and less, I did find one like you describe, it was when I bought the tiny £2 plastic coupling for Hanz car. I have not got time he said to look on the EPC for this part, I only work with the vin number, I told him to just look for 124s 09-93 on and he would find it, he did and we all lived happily ever after

Eventually got the sensor which came with a very long cable attached. I've traced the cable for the existing one as far as just behind the NS headlamp unit but then it seems to disappear into the wiring loom. The length of the cable makes me think I need to run it all the way to the instrument cluster which poses a few questions so here goes

  1. Does any one know the routing for the cable?
  2. Will I have to remove have the stuff in the engine bay to fit it?
  3. Does it plucg straight into the instrument cluster or is there a connection in the engine bay?

As always any help comments would be much appreciated

Cheers

I don't think it should come with the cable. You may have the wrong one. Get another dealer to give you a part number and compare.

Thanks I'll do that. I must say if it's wrong I'm going to be pretty hacked off as I gave them the chassis (VIN) no when I ordered it.........

A 1995 W210 would have an outside temp sensor with the cable attached, as in this fitting guide for the W202 produced by a member on the "other" forum ; http://homepage.ntlworld.com/m.coxon2/tempdisplay.html.
I would think the basic fitting would be similar.
As there are only 2 wires in the connection why don't you just cut off the old sensor and connect the new one in place ?.
