SLK32 AMG
After buying my SLK 32 AMG I understand the engine is built by one man and his name is stamped on the engine.

Does anyone know where it is on a SLK32 AMG.

Also I wonder how many different mechanics are building them over the years ?

As soon as i found the builder of mine i will list, as they are truly amazing engines, and would be interesting how many different mechanics they have building them.

Hi,
The MB web site states that all AMG engines were hand built and signed by the builder on a plaque on the centre of the engine, but i have never seen this plaque on pre 2004ish engines, mine certainly has,nt, my friends C43 has,nt and i have looked at many various AMG engines which leads me to believe that pre 2004ish AMG vehicles did,nt have this plaque, i,m not saying it was,nt hand built but I doubt it was built up by one individual.
Take a look at this youtube video, on the factory assembly of a 5.5 supercharged AMG engine and it quite clearly shows where the plaque is placed on the engine. (this has been posted or similar on the site before).

I must admit when I bought mine I expected to see the plaque, I was quite dissappointed it was,nt there, and even asked MB to get me another one they told me it was only fitted to the later engines that had them, specifically the 55K AMG engine.
Previous AMG engines were taken off the production line at various stages of build to be breathed on by AMG, rather than being built from scratch by AMG.

Mine has a plaque (or is that something on my teeth?)

I can't remember who made it though.

Looking
Hand built is a bit of an exaggeration. Hand assembled with the assistance of a production line is a bit more accurate. The only difference being a single person works on all aspects of one engine. How this is any better than normal assembly I don't know.

Herr Moller by any chance?

As ever Roger, your prescient wisdom is appreciated, you clearly know the drill, and I shall stop filling now, as I don't think I can cap that.

In the words of Robbie Williams, that should take us to the bridge!

brace yourself for some puns. They stopped adding the plaques due to teething problems in manufacture causing the adhesive gum to fail. Also there were debates about the brushed finish and they thought it may dent your pride in the the car.

Not everyone has such a fine set of 'railings' however do try the appropriate 'fixative' to secure them if they have come unstuck.

Apart from that what did you expect young Sir with a 'post' like this;);)

The true reason the engine builder has to sign each engine he builds, is so MB can dock his wages if it blows up.

Mine was handcrafted by "Sandro Petricca". I've not seen the same name twice yet...
