In short, car is 7 weeks old (to me) and 1200 miles, purchased from Notts MB, on delivery the front ns wheel needed a touch up but all others seemed ok.

I dont valet my car I have a man that does a better job than I could ever do and today he pointed out the rear wheel had been refurbed and the paint has come off plus the tyre wall is cut and after checking it has a slow puncture

(not sure if thats the way to show you the pic but I hope it works)

The dealer has been shoddy from the start - one key, no books, promises of key not fulfilled BUT whats the best approach on this ?

I will get so annoyed if they just tell me to get lost, if it was a Lexus dealer a new set of wheels would be fitted without quibble (it happened)

Any advice appreciated please (I definately didnt do it)

They always re-furb wheels the cheap way if they have had some damage and the car is second hand.

Its the CLS 55 isn't it?

You have to remember its a second hand car and will have the odd blemish.

The damage to the tyre is not serious, and would not be the reason for going down.

If the sealer promised keys and books and they did not come, or they were not going to keep their promise, I would block their entrance with my car until they did something and honoured their promise

The books have come (wrong ones) but still awaiting a key!

I accept its used / etc but such a cheap wheel refurb is shocking with hindsight every aspect of the deal was cheap

Will fire a pic to MB CS and see if I get anywhere allthough I never even got a 2nd response for the ticking / breathing seat issue

As above, you expect the odd blemish on a used car. This is why you must go over it with a fine tooth comb and agree any remedial work before signing. I did have some badly chipped paintowrk fixed once after purchase (how I missed it I've no idea) but the repair was really just a chips away job, not a full respray.
Remember, they agree a deal based on what they expect to spend. Some things are written down (new tyres, servicing etc) but they have no obligation on things like chipped wheels.

You did have the no quibble swap out warranty in the first 4 weeks so had you threatened to reject the car at week 3 you'd probably have got your wheel replaced but now you've lost that option.

As far as the key is concerned, ask them for a firm delivery date and the reason for the delay as 7 weeks is too long and chances are they haven't ordered it. I had the same hassle with a couple of minor bits on mine when I bought it.

Sounds to me like your CLS was possibly a finance repo, hence the lack of keys and books. If thats the case then they picked that CLS for a song so they would have had some dosh to invest in the car if needs be.

Porsche in Notts where a complete pain in the arse also, must be a notts thing. More akin to shooting arrows than dealing in cars.

A cheap repair on a £50k+ car is not on - the front wheel had a small scrape that has been well prepped but Derby did the back wheel apparently and allthough it looked good closer inspection showed as a aesthetic cover up.

All seems ok so far - everyone concerned is making the right noises

Even my leaking / heartbeat seats have had the fault escalated as the dealer did not respond

I wish you could buy Mercs from Lexus dealers LOL

Yes maybe it's been a few weeks but I would think that if you were forceful enough to park the car on the forecourt, give the keys to the dealership with a letter of dissatisfaction and reject the car under the Sale of Good Act.

Yes, you should have been quicker with your complaint, nevertheless the dealer has a duty of care especially given the marque and model you have purchased.

Perservere!!

My year old used car, delivered to me last november, no, spare key, no manuels, and two iffy repair paint jobs to front alloys, straight on the phone, key, and manuels delivered within the week, debated alloy repairs, redone, (but not 100%), but felt they had done their part on my complaint, and was reasonable happy. But in regard to the other stories, I agree, for a recent purchase, you would,nt expect that sort of shoddy response from an MB dealership, it just continues to eroud the MB reputation

I bought my first Mercedes about a month ago from Carlians Ltd near Leatherhead in Surrey. It is a 54 plate C200K with a few nice extras. Like many seem to have experienced, only one key was available at time of sale. I complained and I was promised a spare within a week or two.
And guess what?
It actually came.
A brand new, polished chrome trimmed key.
With their compliements.
To get service like that nowadays is rare.
I would certainly recommend them as a quality car retailer and would happily deal with them again when the time comes.
I just thought it was worth mentioning.

By co-oincidence I saw exactly this kind of tyre damage on a neighbours car yesterday. He was having a wheel rebuilt by an alloy wheel specialist. He had been 'run up a kerb' in a narrow street by an oncomer and the wheel had a piece out as had the tyre. The point is, there's probably a resin compound rebuilding the alloy at the point of damage shown in the photo. Plus what about suspension checks?
