Still haven't got my Mercedes yet!

I'm not very pleased at the moment. We've a driving holiday in Scotland booked for this coming Saturday (our first holiday this year) and thought it would be great to have our 'new' car for the trip.

We saw the car (2018 C Class Sport Premium Estate) 3 weeks ago and the salesman didn't see any problems with it, he kept promising it would be ready in a couple of days and still it's not sorted.

The previous owner had a personalised number plate and they traded this car in for a new Mercedes - getting the plate transferred is the problem.

We've had plenty of time to source a different car but were first promised it would be ready 2 weeks ago, then last Friday and now they are not sure if the documents will come back from the DVLA in time for our holiday - of course no time to buy another car before the holiday so we'll have to wait. The garage have promised a courtesy car, but it won't be 'our' car!

The most annoying thing is that the Mercedes Benz salesman originally thought we could just drive the car away with the new number plates and insurance would be OK with that, without waiting for the transfer of plates to actually take place. Even I thought that was not a good idea.

I don't like personalised number plates :)

DVLA is pretty slow at the moment unfortunately - not sure how many are working remotely or not at all :(

I've just transferred my private plate off my car took 3 days for the new logbook to arrive. The plate change was instant, though it has to be done on line, not posted. Posting the transfer off can take up to 4 months.
Fingers crossed for you though :)

Oh, dear hope it doesn't take 4 months. Why didn't the dealer do it online for the customer? I guess the answer lies in the fact that the salesman had no idea that there was a problem changing plates - this is a proper Mercedes Benz dealer and the car is an Approved Mercedes, you'd think they would be used to people having personalised number plates.

The system used to be around 2 weeks changing plates via post, but as every thing has slowed down during our pandemic DVLA is no exception unfortunately.
You are lucky your not trying to register an import Tim

UPDATE:

The garage gave us a brand new courtesy C Class AMG saloon to use for our holiday so with the long test drive it confirmed that I like the car.

We returned on Wednesday and they just found out that the previous owner is not wanting to keep her personalised number plate, so I can have it as it is - in fact I could have had it on July 31st when I first reserved the car! Looks like we will have a personalised number plate after all - but at least I won't have wasted money on it!

I was all set to collect it yesterday, I paid for it and a few minutes later the sales manager phoned and said the car had been dented when collecting it from the compound and needs to be sorted out in the body shop, so I have to wait another week for it!

I can keep the courtesy car until then of course and they have offered 'sweeteners' to offset the great annoyance at having to wait so long for a used car. I hope it's worth it when it's finally ready to collect.

Lets hope that when your new car is in your custody the problems end. My number plate transfer took just a few days when I bought mine. It would seem that the previous owner was the problem. When I swapped in my previous car I had already put the number on retention so there were no fowl ups. I should think the Dealer was a fed up as you were. Then the damage, you couldn't make it up !

I had my E320 serviced at my local main dealer. I left it to next day to collect, they called me first thing advising all the cars had been broken into overnight and the Comand systems nicked...

Personally I wouldn't want a car that is not "As described and sold". A repair is a repair no matter how good and will eventually show!
That or I would want a good chunk off the original price!

NB And I would definitely want to see the damage first!

When did that happen it’s where I take mine :(
2009 - I was living in Halifax at the time and they called at 16:30 telling me the car was ready. I didn’t fancy the rush hour traffic there and back so said I’d collect next morning.
They parked it in their compound are under their cameras overnight...
A gang broke in and took 5 or 6 Comand units from the cars parked outside and mine was one.
Talking to the service manager he said quite a few Mercedes dealerships along the M62 corridor were all hit the same night.
Mercedes were great about it, replacing the rear quarter light and Comand unit from their insurance without me claiming on mine at all.

They've told me that it will have a full tank of fuel and they will give me a free service when it's due, so OK

Yes I think it was the previous owner. That's exactly what the sales manager said "You couldn't make it up".

Finally got my car. It's lovely, so much smoother to drive than the brand new one they loaned me

But it has a few older features - the display screen is not as big, no Comand system, it uses Garmin Sat Nav, the dials are real, not the lovely digital ones in the new car, and most noticeably no touch pad above the wheel thing in the centre console.

One little annoying thing is that the small screen between the analogue dials shows the speed in KMPH at the top right corner and this cannot be changed to MPH - why? And another thing that affects me more than most is the indicators - in my ideal seating position they are partly hidden by the steering wheel and they are so quiet that I can't hear them (despite wearing hearing aids). This means that I sometimes forget to switch them off. Does anyone know if there is something to boost or simulate the sound of the indicators? I don't need them particularly loud, just enough to be aware they are on. I keep discovering nice features I didn't really know about (keyless entry, remote window and sunroof opening, switch to drop down rear seats, speed limiter as well as cruise control). I'm sure there will be more in the coming weeks - I haven't even had chance to try out the park assist yet.

There is no indicator volume increase. If you’re struggling to hear them and can’t see the arrows flashing due to the steering wheel, I’d suggest you check the column stalk is centralised each time you turn the corner you’ve indicated for.

The little display shows km/h because the big dial shows mph..!

Glad you got your car at last!

It shows KPH because I think you will find your Speedo only shows MPH and by law you have to have both - I think.
