I know there are quit e a few threads about this issue, but none seem to exactly match my problem or solve it.

The battery in my 3 button key fob has been off and on for a while and the other morning I unlocked the car using the key fob, then it went dead, i couldn't even start the ignition. No flashing red light nothing. So I changed the batteries and now the key fob is completely dead.

My spare works in the ignition but it has no central locking control.

I have tried leaving it in the ignition for a few hours and still no joy.

I have been to the local Merc Dealer, and they said that I need to get a new keyfob which will cost £120 + VAT. If I have to do that, i'll be piseed off enough, but the same merc dealer perofrmed a service b on my car 2 months ago and in the report changed the key fob battery, which as I have found out they haven't. The batteries I took out were old and as dead as a door knob and clever me I didn't keep them. I'm just wondering if me changing the batteries did kill it, and if it did, couldn't I have a go at the merc dealer for not changing the batteries when they should have?
or
Is there anything else I can do, to try and get the keyfob working again?

Thanks
