You have a blown stoplamp bulb, how do you tell which one??
1. You are on your own 2. No handy shop windows/buses are around 3. You can't find anything to jam pedal or join up the wires. 4. Both bulbs look ok. 5. you can only go round to the lamps once. :?: :?:

Personally I'd wait to get home then get my multimeter out :p

But if I was in a real rush to get bulb replaced, I'd choose one side and swap the stop lamp bulb with the indicator, then get back in the car and indicate for that side, rapid blinking and the bulb is blown, if all seems normal then chances are the other side stop lamp bulb has failed.

Do I win a peanut? :p ;)

apply the brakes for a while, then see which lamps warm and which ones are cold - too easy

Well done nasher, surprising how many people can't figure these things out. Lateral Thinking they call it, certanly helps when diagnosing faults.

Take the covers off the back (if it can be done). Open the boot lid apply the brakes and by a crank of the neck you will probably be able to see under the boot lid and into the boot. Far easier with an estate.
