Another VED Rise.

VED is going up again as announced in todays Budget.
For cars registered since 1st April 2017 an increase of £5 on the standard rate plus £10 on the additional rate if your car is in this category...giving a new top rate of £490.
Variable increase prior to this date of £0 - £20 depending on CO2 emissions.

not as much as if they taxed the big corps properly like amazon etc more ! .Gov has known for years they have been getting round the system , so why not close that loop hole instead of hitting the little people , yet again

If already in that bracket then yes I agree.
If you find yourself in it with a new (or new to you) vehicle then it will be a sore one.

The maximum now for vehicles registered between 1 March 2001 and before 1st April 2017 is £600.

I've just taxed the R Class's successor .... it was 'only' £305 so it looks like I got off lightly to the tune of nearly £300

Just as well I taxed it online last week at the old rate.

It’s a great point but the government have got to make the UK an attractive place to do business which boosts the economy, so they’re laid back on it and it’s probs their mate. There’s probably a lot of stuff that we don’t know as well which happens in the background. Also, these conglomerates are so big they have a significant leverage. The only way we can get them to change is to simply, as a large population stop spending money with them.

As a side note, I help a local lady who owns a business which fights the tax man on behalf of their clients. She was saying how most brown envelopes are generated automatically now by what the internet has on you. They cross correlate loads of databases and the computer makes a decision. She said the latest storm is where a large company handed over its database which was something like ‘a man with a van’. You can imagine all the self employed on there who probably don’t declare it all...

Tbf many of them don’t earn a lot, but HMRC chomping at the bit to go after them ...

Simples, the little people don't hit/fight back as effectively as the big corps, making them an easy mark.
