Apologies for this post, but even with the above data I cannot ascertain if 18" wheels from a 2009 CLS will fit my W204 Estate.

There is a slight difference in the ET but does this move the wheel out or inboard?

The ET on the 18" AMG W204 Wheels are between 47 and 50, whereas the ET for the 16" wheels are 53.

The ET on the 18" CLS wheels are between 24 and 28.

I'm looking for 18" wheels for my car but the 18" AMG wheels are stupid prices hence why I'm looking across the Mercedes range.

Many thanks.

No they won't, not only is the ET too low they are too wide

I have just checked and measured my car and you are spot on, the tyres are 39 mm wider which brings them beyond the wheel arch.

Many thanks.

Thank you, yes I wanted something like those, but the tyre size has me a bit baffled, why would the rear tyres have a lower ratio than the front?
I can see there is only 2mm in the rolling radius but does that make a massive difference or was it to change the gearing I wonder?

I was looking more for wheels only as I want to have them powder coated.

The rolling radius is the same on 225/40 as 255/35. My E class is 245/40 & 265/35 on 18" wheels. or you could have 225/40 on all four wheels.
My winter wheels are 245/40R17 on all four wheels. I much prefer the 17" wheels they give a much smoother ride.

Because they are wider at 255 when the front are 225 so it is to keep them as close as possible to the same circumference

Remove the tyres

I have 16" at the moment but they look a bit lost in the arches hence why I wanted 18" but I never considered 17" I will have a look how they fit the arches.

There are loads on ebay. I bought a set of mercedes 17" wheels with almost new Nokian cross climates for £440 delivered, for the SLC.

I'm on the search for some now.
This is my 2008 S204 on 17" AMG's. View attachment 63395

Looks lovely, I have changed my newer style grill and flush bonnet badge for the slatted grill and upright badge, much prefer the classic look.

My car came on original 16" wheels and I found the ride a bit wallowy, found the 17's improved the feel without seriously compromising the ride. Personal opinion - I would not go any larger than 17" as I suspect the ride would be too firm for us old fogeys! We're not boy racers so not interested in ultimate road holding or "looking cool" by having big wheels and rubber band tyres, just want a comfortable ride with decent feel and road holding - which we have with these 17" AMG wheels bought second hand on eBay, then had refurbished. They're also a damned sight easier to clean than the original Elegance spec wheels the car came with - and which I sold quite easily to a member from here or the MBClub forum.

Take a "before" photo of existing wheels on car then another when you have to AMG's fitted, so we can see the difference when you post the photos on here. Your next question will be what tyres for a precise but comfortabale ride - and that will be beer and popcorn time!!:D:D:D

Ah tyres, well that is a can of worms I'm not opening, I like the Goodyear efficent grip I have now so may get another set of those.

Ha, I've been scuppered at the first tyre hurdle, my chosen tyres are unavailable for the rear, so second choice are the Uniroyal Rainsport 3

Goodyear do the Eagle F1 Asymmetric in 225/45 R17 and 245/40 R17 - I've had them on my S204 for ages, liked them so much I wanted them for my 968 cab but NA in 16" so fitted Efficientgrips! Have also fitted Efficientgrip Performance (17", 225/45) to the front of the SLK and earlier this year changed the front of the S204 to Michelin Crossclimates - but can't get 245/40 R17 Crossclimates for the rear - but I have about 10k of wear left on the S204 rears!
