I recently had a new antenna mast fitted, but yesterday when parking at home, the mast hit the low branches on the tree and bent!!!!!! It wont work properly now.

This is the second time I've had a mast damaged, what are the alternatives to the telescopic type of antenna masts please

You could try some tree surgery? :)

Or fit something like this. No idea how good or bad they are, I should think you might lose some reception with them being inside the car. There's also the fact that you'd end up with a hole in your wing.

Alternatively, try this one. They also do a complete automatic one for £25, can't be bad. :)

Bent coat hangers may be OK on an SL but not for a W124. :D

I didn't want to pay £29 for a screw in mast for my W140 not knowing for certain if the unit still works. A complete new unit would cost me £70+ and so I bought a Chinese unit supposedly for a W140 S Class series for £20 delivered. Of course it does not fit as the W140 is almost side wing mounted. They refunded my money and I have compromised on using the broken antenna of a Transistor (?) Radio with a couple of paperclips folded and inserted to make contact with the tube. Add a bit of masking tape around the point where it finally rests in the tube to make a watertight fit. Bingo, does anyone remember when you had to pull up Car aerials? Well at least now, there is no possibility of the part sticking up (only a grip inch extends) being vandalised which was a design fault of the original.
It Works very well.
If you don't have an oe antenna and yours fits on a flush part of the wing then you can have the Chinese electric aerial at cost of postage. PM me. It is a draining aerial whereas the Hirschmann was not, which may explain the mast extension to not allow ingress of H2O.
