W124 300TD....

We hit the mother of all potholes yesterday and I have found that the bracket connecting the anti-roll bar (where there is a bushing) to the chassis, has snapped in two.

I want to know if it is OK to drive the car carefully?

Currently it is making creaking noises and noises like the spring is moving a bit.

Also, if anybody has the part name/number handy.......

Thanks!!!!

This is a not uncommon problem. You won't cause any real problems by driving it but I suspect you may stress the other ARB hanger a fair bit so I would drive it as little as possible

While you're replacing the broken one I'd consider doing replacing the one on the other side as well and I'd definitely replace all the ARB bushes - they're about £20 / set and make a huge difference

Thanks

in the meantime I've found it's item 35 in this diagram

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=717.433&CT=F&cat=15U&SID=32&SGR=060&SGN=02

The bushes on the ARB look newish TBH. How many are there? Just the one either side, or are there more down near the wishbones?

The wishbones bushes are another matter. They look perished but got through the MOT. Due to all thing recession I would prefer to not change the wishbone bushes while i don't have to but if it would be cheaper to do them now while doing ARB work then let me know!

Thanks!

There are two ARB Bushes on the hangers and two on the wishbone = four in total. The wishbone bushes are not easy to do

The most common failures are ARB bushes, balljoints and broken springs. ARB bushes are not mission-critical, nor are springs, surprisingly, but a snapped balljoint will spoil your whole weekend

Balljoints are £13 each but can be a swine to fit. A proper spring compressor is needed to avoid the spring taking your head off

I'd have a good look around and do the more urgent stuff before getting into wishbone bushes

cool thanks for the info. considering there isn't only visual deterioration to the 8 wishbone bushes I will leave them.

I had alot of expenses this week so I think I will just get the new ARB clamps alone for now and perhaps the hanger bushes, but they looked fine. Well, the rubber looked clean, but I could see gaps between the rubber and the bar itself. I assume this is normal for this bush.
