Hi All. I am shortly to have my break discs and pads replaced on my W211.

The discs on there look unsightly as they have rusted. I am planning to get a decent set of alloys fitted and therefore wanted some advice on which brand of discs to go for that resist corrosion and won’t look rusty under some gleaming alloys after a while.

Someone mentioned Brembo discs to me but the garage recommends genuine MB.

Any views?

The only way to stop any BRAKE disk rusting is to paint the edges and hub before fitting.

I have Pagid and Brembo on my car with no issues. Pagid make them for MB IIRC

Iron fall out from your pads will create rust on the discs every time unless you use a low dust/ceramic pad like......EBC red stuff ( there said it... now lit fuse and await explosions...)

Brembo .

But it still doesn't stop me from adding .

The pads take off the paint from the contact surface and anything unswept stays rust free .

Brembo have a new disc now .

Basically most uncoated discs will rust within a week in the UK winter. The hubs and edges will look bad.

Painting the discs first can be problematic. For example if you use brake caliper paint the pads won't clean it off the surface of the disc and will clog up (ask me how I know...).

The simple answer, although harder to do in practice, is to only buy coated brake discs. This will narrow down your options significantly but the coating will wear off where the pads make contact, the rest will remain coated. The coating will be even enough to be allowed on the mating faces too.

I think at least some genuine MB discs are coated grey.

I have had a new set fitted to the youths VW they are coated and badged Pagid by TMD.
I don't know where they're made but like Brembo they have Chinese factories.

Looked at mintex seems most are heading to coated. Might go that way but will wait to hear from those who have ran them for 12 months before parting with my Cash.

Mintex is also part of TMD

Discs on Motorcycles are SS, well whatever it is it doesn't rust. So why can't they do the same for cars??? I always wondered that. I think it goes back to the days when cars mostly had Steel Wheels and Hubcaps so the Discs or Drums weren't visible. It's about time that they got with the program!

I've painted the hubs and edges of my rotors with calliper paint as well as the rotors. After a couple of winter seasons it starts coming off. On one set I got cryogenicly treated with a gold coloured non corrosive coating which worked very well. The last time I ordered rotors I was advised that the coating has been banned for environmental reason.

I masked up and sprayed new disc's front and rear with silver hammerite, that was two years ago, and yes, they are dirty, but not rusty, just give them a decent wipe when wheel off and they clean up again.
