any comments on s280-s320 92-98

i was thinking of changing my 1992 e -class 300d for a s280 or 320.
1994-97 is about what i can afford to buy(they normanly have about 90,000-120,000 on the clock).does anyone have any comments good or bad on this model?

get an after 96 model - there are significant changes at this point. easieast way to check build date is by seeing if it has a) a five speed electronic 'box (has a w/s switch not an e/s switch) and will have side air bags

there are various W140 (this model os S class) forums - do a google search..

check air con works.
check all the vacuum systems work (several times - 500 quid pump!)
rust is not an issue
they eat tyres and brakes for breakfast.
id go for the 320 as it is a 2 tonne car...

Only one thing to add...check the suspension and exhaust too, potential expense there.

Agree too, go 320. Its a heavy motor and probably 320 more economical than 280.
