Renault would seem to be an odd choice given the unreliability issues he and Max have been plagued with all season.
Mind you Renault themselves haven't had many issues....

I suspect part of his reasoning is that by going to a manufacturer team (as opposed to a customer team) he'll get access to more powerful engines as this is an area Red Bull have been suffering.

Holy cow!

I understand the Manufacturer team bit, but Red Bull would have effectively been a Honda Works team.

I also imagine that Red Bull wanted a 3 year contract but Danny Ric probably wanted a 1 yr to start with.I hope it isn't a bad decision like Alonso made.

So, is that a straight swap for Sainz? Or does some one else get a shot next to Max?

I really hope that pays off for him. I like Dan Dare a lot and I hope he hasn’t just taken a drivers title out of his hands one day. I can’t help but sit here and think...

DR may well be another driver that never wins a Championship which would be a pity considering his skills and likeability around the paddock.
I don't see Renault ready to challenge Mercedes or Ferrari any time soon.
I would have loved to see him in a Mercedes alongside LH.

Never going to happen while Ham has any say. He wouldn't want to have to compete with him on equal footing.

Hmmm I'm not so sure.
He has a high opinion (rightly) of himself and his ability to beat anyone on the grid.
Sadly I don't think we'll ever find out.

I think both Ham and Vettel both vetoed having Ric as a team mate 'cos they didn't want to get beaten. He certainly showed Vettel up when in similar cars.

^ Vettel clearly is #1 at Ferrari and Kimi knows his place.
DR wouldn't accept being a #2 again. That is why nothing came of his talks with Mercedes where Hamilton is undisputed #1.

Even though he has more points than Vercrashem I think Red Bull look on him as their #2. Certainly in the pay stakes.
No wonder he is moving on.

Used to have a C63...
I really do rate DR, he warrants a competetive car.

Would be nice if Renault had a "Brawn moment" this season!

Reckon the Honey Badger is not so stupid.
His comment that every time Renault have entered F1 they have eventually been the team to beat makes sense.
They have resources that Red Bull lacks, and I can see them repeating past successes - although HB may need to take a longer term view that just a couple of years.

And now Alonso, the old man of F1, has thrown in the towel.
Wonder if he really will go to Uncle Sam?

I think he will do Indy and WEC Super Season. He has said he may come back to F1 if McLaren sort themselves out

He'll do Indy as he wants the triple. I cannot see McLaren taking him back in the future, he's 37 and they'll want to think long term and maybe pick up some younger talent coming through the ranks.
