So they will ship a replacement Mercedes to shetland, ship mine to Aberdeen, repair it and ship it back?

Well if this is true that is a very good service indeed. Although I suspect there are limits to the service depending on how far you are from a dealership.

I have not recieved such a letter yet, but if I do that will be fantastic of Mercedes UK

Ah! I see, Mercedes-Benz Direct is a Mercedes owned used car dealership (hope that is right). Thought for a moment my luck was in.

As for the question about roads in Shetland, no there are no roads here we just drive along sheep tracks and across fields. Once I did manage to get into 2nd gear going downhill, but the massive speed frightened the sheep and now we are not on speaking terms. Completely ruined my plans for the weekend;)

I've had a plastic card from my friendly MB dealership for a good while now. An Accident Aftercare card with a member No. for me, which includes the dealer's name and an 0845 Number. From memory the covering letter was very similar in it's wording. So I deduce that the separate 'clusters' of dealers or dealer groups are following some centrally-thought-up strategy to hold cars in the MB repair shops?

Seems like a great service...

It's not a "service" at all - it's a money making enterprise that will *only* help you if the accident was clearly not your fault and the other driver has insurance.

If that's the case then no problem at all shipping a car to Shetland etc etc - it all helps bump up the cost of the claim and the accident management company that MB Direct is promoting makes even more profit.

Sounds great - but at the end of the day we're all paying for this with (unneccesarily) increased insurance premiums.

I got one of these too. Looks like an attempt to get more work for their pricey bodyshops.
I guess it will only work if the price they offer to the insurer is good enough to beat their normal repairers. Nice touch emphasising the car, makes you and I put pressure on the insurer to avoid a free Ford KA for the week..!

Win back

Hi All

But aren't all these schemes merely MBs attempt to win back customers? I assume MB is not so large a company that it is relatively unaffected by the apparent economic downturn. A trip through my High Street reveals most shops are giving massive discounts or employing schemes to increase turnover. I don't see car makers as any different.

not so sure about winning back customers, more like milking their existing customers. Thye've probaly linked in with a accident management company
might they be creaming off a (20%?) cut off the top, as well as driving business to their dealsers workshops ?
Their advice conflicts with the compehensive insurance I have - if I had a bump, who would I call first ?
