Hi all

I spent a very satisfying hour or so this evening removing all the ancient Nokia hands-free kit from my 2003 W209 CLK. Surely worth half a second off the 0-60 time in the weight saving alone...? ;)

I only got started because I wanted to see the back of my cassette deck and start figuring out what bits I'll need I order to install something better, and the task snowballed somewhat!

Anyway, before I put the centre console back, I just wanted to ask if my removing of all this extra wiring is likely to cause any issues? It looked to me as if the Nokia stuff just sort of piggy-backed into the inputs for the stereo, and was all self-contained. Just worried that maybe there is something I've not accounted for, and I'll end up with fault codes on the dash, or failed steering wheel controls or something.

All wisdom gratefully received!

P.S. Am trying to upload an image of all the kit I removed, but I'm getting a server error so will try again tomorrow.

Generally speaking the Nokia kits are easy to remove as you found. They simply sit inline between the head unit and speakers.

Thank you - I'm probably overly nervous of all the electronics! :)

Here is all the gubbins I removed. Quite satisfying to take it all out to be honest.

By the way, if anyone has any recommendations on good threads about replacing the stock stereo with something better, I'd love to know.

Am still trying to decide whether just to get a single DIN unit with Bluetooth for the sound, and leave my phone where it is for nav, or go for a double DIN Android unit with CarPlay. A big screen nav unit would look nicer, but I actually quite like my phone screen where it is for navigation.
