We have a 1987 300 TE and we're at our wits' end! None of our local garages has been able to find the fault ? but it's still there.
The symptoms ? engine occasionally loses nearly all its power, even when the car is cruising at 40mph. Also occasionally reluctant to start. Very erratic idle ? sometime the engine just dies when you're manoevring, and sometimes when you're sitting in neutral the revs surge up and down.
The really frustrating thing is that at other times it runs perfectly - including when the garages have the car!
Plugs and air filter have been renewed. Emissions are apparently absolutely fine. Fuel filter OK.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very welcome.
