Hello again all

Because of the reasonable weather of late, im thinking about installing aircon.
Anybody know how much i should be looking to pay for this, im not looking for climate control just some plain old very cold air!

I want to know the ups and downs of having an aftermarket kit fitted and ultimatly the cost.

Cheers again everyone.

I hope you do not mind me me venturing an opinion here (coz thats all it is) but you will have more value ££££ in the aircon than you have in the car!

Its a big big job.

You may be better trading up to one with aircon. However, be aware aircon systems in W124s are not known for their longevity and an evap swap out is a big big job.

Have a read of this - see if it puts it in perspective :

I thought as much, maybe the cars not worth much but it never go's wrong so I dare not part with it for a bit of cold air. I'll open the window
like everyone else and then save up £10,000 for a newer 320 with all the tricks!

Cheers again for your help guys!!

No need for red face - I went through this shortly after I bought the car, it was the combination of cost and the deep interior surgery that put me off.

I have to confess though, compared to a lot of other cars, there is not a lot of heat soakage through the glass and so it is relatively cool anyway (not as cold as with working aircon granted). Certainly, when I get in the daughters car (Astra) it is like an oven compared to mine and they are parked together!

I do not know if you have investigated legal tints on rear and side windows, it is a comparitively low cost option and should reduce solar transmission even more - as long as you do not go too 'pimp like' it should look cool too. See this thread -
