Seems strange you should have decided to hang around then - doesn't it, unless....

Therefore starting this thread was as pointless as fitting wheels to a Tomato - time consuming and completely unnecessary

+1 for the Blackadder reference, Dr Johnson.

Hot here, damn hot. So I went for a surf. It's still too hot to sleep.

What's Blackadder - a snake?

Yes the sky could fall on your head too Pete, but the reality of the situation is different of course - not that there is anything useful in the link you sent to me here.

The information I have received from source/s far more reliable to me than any of you so far is that almost all of the tyres in question are made in Europe with the majority of them from France. This is of course a complete contradiction to the nonsense spun on this thread and inline with what a thinking man may suspect.

So, it seems that you blokes have taken a good honest question from a decent bloke and put your spin on it in an attempt to hijack the truth and indeed the thread - but it didn't work, other than showing anybody with a modicum of intellect & integrity what you stand for.

We don't have snakes in New Zealand.

Should we move on to a fitness for purpose question to test the real depth of knowledge.

Can any of the experts who have contributed so far tell me why a Michelin tyre made in France or Europe is not deemed suitable for use in New Zealand....

That will be due to trade protection of local factories rather than anything to do with quality of tyres.

Yes apart from that there is a technical reason [or possibly reasons] that has to do with the roading material differences.

Update: Tyres were not stable from new. I have worked with Mercedes-Benz Dealership network to resolve this, they have said in their experience many tyres are not stable from new and will go out of round. They have helped to explain how to stabilize them. So far so good. Here's hoping they settle for good. They are at 1.2 mm out of round now which although is out of MB spec they are acceptable to me at this point in time.

Michelin, how's about you train your network to explain this to customers!

I do not want to hear from the semi morons who previously thought they had something or nothing to add to this thread.

Thinking about this the tyres as fitted to a 124 do have a high sidewall, and there must be more chance of one of these going out of round that the lower sidewall used on many today.

How about because its cheaper for Michelin to ship from the Far East than from Europe? And who says its not 'suitable' (as opposed to not available)?

Apparently its the road surface materials we use in NZL, the stone chip we use causes outer shoulder wear on the Euro Michelin tyres, they modify them to suit our conditions and hence will not sell a Euro market tyre for use in NZL.
