Paul,
I'm not familiar with the exact dates they made changes, but I expect you have the earlier KE-Jetronic (CIS-E) injection. If so it's adustable, and I believe that 700-800 would be quite acceptable when checked "warm" in "Park". I cannot see it listed in the Haynes manual..but that speed seems to ring a bell.
Mine tends to be about the same, but it's the later type which has a rotary idle actuator, to automatically adjust the idle. I must say I prefer to be able to set it myself, but we cannot have everything.
If she runs smooth, and doesn't die on you I'd leave it where it is. You will get less clunk on drive take-up and slightly better engine breaking in theory (only in circumstances where there is engine breaking).

Hello Richard,

I managed to get hold of a manual yesterday and your bang on right!
I wont mess with it as it seems to idle ok just dropping off slightly now and again. I just thought that all other motors ive had seemed to idle at around 900rpm

Cheers matey

as per the brooklands car manual ,the 102 engine's idle speed should be

800 plus or minus 50 rpm-so anything between 750 to 850 rpm would be

ok.

hope this helps

Mine on a salon is 700-800, and it is very smooth. If all is well don't raise it as the gear engagement will be harsher (more work and wear on the brake bands) and lower tickover revs = lower fuel consumption.
