Hello,

I just bought myself a 1983 280ce, and have found myself in need of a fuse box. Would anyone know of such a place that would sell these.
When I bought the car the (which was layed up for quite a while) it didn't have a fuse box lid, and subsequently everything was pretty grotty. The drivers window is on and off, the brake light comes on for no reason from time to time, and the headlamps are a bit temperamental.

My auto knowledge is pretty rubbish, and searches on Google and ebay aren't turning up anything.
Any help from you kind contributors would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hello and welcome, a breakers is the only sensible place to get one from, other than that, all of the inside fuse holders and etc are available from MB both separate and in kits, not all that cheap.
Its surprising what can be done with a switch cleaner of the non drying type like Electrlube for cleaning all of the contact, these were a problem on the early 124's. Most people that have cleaned the contacts have had a 100% success, it would not be the first time that I have taken an electronic panel and washed it in the shower, drying it off is the Key issue, its a lot of work changing all of the contact and holders, try and restore,if you can.

Hi Malcom, thanks for the prompt response.

I got the window to go up by fiddling around with the fuse, however it was giving off a few sparks, and then there was the smell of something plastic burning... there are a few other ones like that. How much do you think a garage would charge to replace a fusebox (i'd find the part myself)?

I have already sprayed the thing with contact cleaner, and it just reverts back to it's weird ways... I really should get a lid for it though...

cheers
Joe
