Hello,
Not sure if there are any of the old bunch on here.
I defected to a Jaguar XJ8 Sport. (From a 300te)
However, I am contemplating an C class 230k.
Does anyone have any knowledge, or would I be better off with a C240/280. (for about £7000)
Hopefully I will find one.
Mike.

Hi,

Just read your message and having owned a C230 and currently owning a C280, I have to say that I prefer the 280.

Why, well the 280 is a much more refined engine...the 230K is harsh and rough. You can't beat the sound of an inline 6 when its getting into its stride!

If you're interested I have a very low mileage C280 Elegance Auto for sale (my new company wants me to run a company car). Its a November 1995 with 29,000 miles on the clock and only two owners, the first having the car for just under 8 years.

Its Black with a tan leather interior with electric everything, seats (heated), mirrors, sunroof, and it also has air-con. Also has four new tyres and a long MOT.

Car has no dents or dings, but has some minor scratches on the bumpers from where people have nudged parked. Interior/leather is in great condition.

If you're interested I would be looking for @ £7900.00.

I'm just up the road from you in Reading.

Thanks Mj
Possibly a little too much. I would be probably looking at about 1500 less.
Thanks for the information though, much appreciated.
Interesting that the fuel economy is similar, I thought the 230 would be better, but then again, with the supercharger it all adds up.
Still, anything would be easier on the fuel than the Jag V8. (Nice engine though)
Did mercedes dabble with the nicasil bore liner that BMW and Jaguar messed around with. I certainly dont want that issue popping up.
Regards.
mike.

Not that I'm aware of.....the only major things that I have heard that go wrong on the C280/E280 with the inline 6 are the head gaskets that tend to blow at 110,000 miles.

I ran a 1998 C230K for 60,000 miles and suffered a supercharger failing at 30,000. Fuel consumption was low at 22-24mpg and the car ate tyres, and as I mentioned before, I thought that the engine was a rough old beast.......saying that, it did shift when you put your foot down.

Cheers

Not really Jay.
The Jag went like stink but was just that little bit too fragile.
I have become used to the build quality of both BMW and Mercedes so the Jag was a little shaky.
Plus you couldn't get anything in it.
I am currently toying with a C230K  or a BMW 328I Touring.
