Hi - I hope things go well and please let us know how he gets on. I think you are correct in that there probably are not many Mercedes EV owners on this forum. It might be worth checking out mbeqclub.com/forums/ to see what they have to say about the EQC.

Lets put it this way it was a deal he couldn’t refuse he was about to opt for a Tesla 3 performance. The EQC range (or lack of) fitted his usage and he can charge at home or work the build quality is a bonus especially in premium plus

Next stage, home charger - it will be interesting to see what his energy supplier allows the car to be charged at. Most properties have a 24kVA supply ie 100Amps @ 240V, he has an electric shower, oven and hob in a 4 bed house so I’m guessing 3.6kW

Son’s EQC has arrived, Premium Plus and very well specced

First commute to work which is 40 miles (almost all M1 roadworks and restricted to 50mph) car only lost 24 miles in range in ECO mode so very impressive

First charge (at work) didn’t go well looks like there is a problem with the charging cable supplied with the car so MB engineer called out to assist…

I’ll probably get chance to go out in it at the weekend should be interesting

Just been out in the EQC and as far as electric cars are concerned it’s sensational, warp speed acceleration, virtually no mechanical sound from the drivetrain, suspension handles the 21in wheels really well and the build quality and spec make the car something special.
I’d certainly lease one but as far as owning one the appeal drops off when you consider the liability of the battery pack if you can lease it on a salary sacrifice scheme through ‘loveelectric’ it makes a lot of sense

Home charger fitted this morning he’s opted for a loose 10 metre charging cable which plugs into the garage wall next to the control unit as opposed to the 7.5 metre recoil type unit the reason being locally there’s a spate of criminal activity ripping out the charging cable for the copper core.

The interesting thing for me was that the charger adjusts the amount of charge available from the grid relative to demand locally ie, when there is low demand the car is charged at 7.2kWhr and 3.6 when demand increases.

Cost wise he put an hours charge into the car costing 60p (peak rate) which increased the range by 22 miles, by comparison 22 miles costs me >£5 so if you do the mileage the cost savings are very attractive

Over two weeks in with the EQC and he’s loving it, no sacrifice in quality of the interior (a la Tesla), charging ability at work and home (no petrol stations or charging stations), 40 mile each way commute and all business trips well within the mileage range he’s probably hit the sweet spot of EV ownership.

We looked very closely at the EQC when my wife was looking for a new car in Q4 last year, we ended up with a shortlist of EQC vs iX3 and she ended up with the BMW. I think both are great for the daily commute, she loves it - the cost to use if you can charge at home on an EV rate at 7KW/h then it really is a no brainer particularly as a company car.

We had both side by side, yes they are different, but both are equally as good as each other, I was hoping she went with the Mercedes but she was more familiar with BMW having come out of an X5.

I worry about their trade in values (not for those with company cars) but the market as a whole as Taycan Turbos are trading at approx. £100K below their new price within 4 / 5 years !! so I would assume the MBs and BMs will suffer even more in terms of %age drop.

Mb will be getting mine back in December had it 4 years then on 0% pcp with a final balloon payment of £32k. At last year’s service they would offer me £23k trade in and things ain’t got any better. So will go back to mb soon just to finalise the figures then tell the finance to collect it in December. As the EQC is now no more the price will only go one way. Lovely car but it’s only done 11.500 miles. Think my next car when I decide what I want will be a lease.

Yes lease makes a lot of sense and if you are lucky enough to run one on a company salary sacrifice scheme (as my son does) it’s a no brainer - I like the EQC and as a compromise (it uses an ICE platform) it turned out very well

Unfortunately not Malcolm. I have a company van and the wife has her own car so that’s why mine hardly gets used.
