My now 10 year old E280 was one of the last to be fitted with a "Scorpion" alarm / central locking remote & I've only got the 1 with the car.

Should I ever accidentally destroy or lose it, I'll definitely be up the creek!!

The company that took over Scorpion a few years ago tell me they've now run out of all back up spare circuit boards & cases, and that I should try to see if a learning device (seen a new 1 on eBay for £35 + vat) can't replace & be used as a spare.

So, before splashing out on something that may never work - was wondering if anybody out there has tried one of these that could work on my now out-dated "Mercedes Approved Alarm System" printed black on silver decals on windows.

As always very grateful for your comments good or bad,

Cheers,
Keith.

The thousands of the electronic keys bought on Ebay by MB owners were very useful; as toys for their kids:( :-D . These electronic keys can not be programmed, not even by the dealer.

But Keith
Regarding your car. If it has a seperate key and fob, you should be able to get a competent alarm installer to make you up a copy.

If you have one of the later flick-knife key and fob in one, the dealer will cut the key, and programme the fob for you.

Why Pascal?

Anything to do with the sweets manufacturer?

I used to be a rep for Paynes Poppets & used to know all the others 20 eons ago.

They were the days in a cavalier 1300 basic that could do 97mph flat out up the motorways mmmm & no limit free petrol credit card mmmmmm ...

Pascal,
I have a 1995 E300TD with a scorpion alarm with separate 2 button key fob with a slider on side for movement sensors (probably a model 918 or 972 or something of that vintage?). I contacted Electro Systems Ltd (Tel 0125 7 249928) based in Chorley who took over the liquidated Scorpion. Someone in their technical section called Tony originally worked for Scorpion and knew my alarm immediately from the description. He could still supply a few key fobs at something like £35 + PP, BUT these can only be trained by the central alarm unit, which must be removed from the car and sent to them for computer connection to set. The fob, or any other fob CANNOT BE TRAINED to recognise the alarm unit on alarms of this vintage (which is perhaps a good thing for security). The problem I encountered was arranging for removal of alarm unit for posting to Electro Systems, since local car security firms were suggesting this would cost some £50 and I assume another £50 to put back, and this did not look like a DIY job to me. These firms also said they often encountered problems with indicators and so forth when the alarm unit was put back. It seemed to me cheaper to replace the alarm system, or better, to look after the fob! I do have an original flick key as well which operates central locking but not alarm, as a back up. Tony at Electro Systems was very helpful.

I have the flick key system too. The alarm system is Mbss 2b. This alarm system is made by scorpion. It is connected to the MB imobiliser.

Newer flick key fobs, like mine, can be programmed to the alarm. I do not think that there is a security issue here, as you need an existing key etc to do this.

With the 918, they should be able to supply you with a new fob for your alarm, as they state from the literture that came with this alarm. All they ask for is proof of ownership and seriel no of the alarm. I understand that scorpion no longer exist, but surely this guy Mike, has a database of codes.

Fobs for later alarm models (before my type) can be programmed by means of disconnecting a wire and the aid of original remote.
