Has anyone experimented with veg oil ratios in a CDI engine? My old C250 diesel ran it OK up to 70% poured straight into the tank (I never went higher than this) but it did have the strong Bosch inline pump that could take cold veg oil. Now that I have a CDI I'm not as brave due to the different pumping technology. I've read on one of hte German web sites that some folk are running their CDI without modification (two tank system). It's well documented about the 2 tank system (start cold on diesel then switch to veg oil tank once hot) but I've heard rumours you can run a CDI on a 'in the tank' ratio.

If you're in the UK, not in this weather :) Leave it until the summer. I used to put neat veggie oil in my A4 1.9Tdi, but that was an older VAG engine and could run off anything.

you will be able to run on veg oil on a 50/50 mix,not any higher at this time of year.

:p Have you personally tried veg oil as a diesel substitute? Does the car start alright in the cold weather and can you put it straight in the tank with the diesel or do you have to mix it before hand and also what happens if you are caught using it by the customs and excise and will your car pass the roadside emission test. One last question does it do any harm to your engine. :p

yes the car will start ok

better to heat it up and mix it beforehand

you must register and pay the duty.

yes it will be better on an immision test

no it does not harm the engine.
