Hi All,

Is there a code reader suitable for Mercedes cars at a reasonable price?

I know this question comes up from time to time and the answer is usually no, but I have had my eye on this for a while and wondered if anyone had experience of using it, and if it really as good as they make out? ...

Not sure if you have a 16 pin OBD socked under the dash or not, but if you do then this should work for your car (well at least the W203). I have used it on my W-163 & W208. The only problem with the W208 was that it had the protocols to communicate but I needed to get an adaptor to connect to the 38 pin socket under the bonnet.

It looks a bit pricey though, I got mine from this mob - and if you are concerned about it working with your other car call them. They went into the MB menu and checked that it was listed for both my MB's before they sold it to me. Can't fault after sales either.

(I have no vested interest in recommending this company - just giving you options).

Mark thanks for your reply.

It looks like there are various outlets selling it for about £175.

The w203 does have the 16 pin connector just under the steering wheel. Would it be necessary for me to get an adapter too? I'm not sure if mine has a 38 pin connector under the bonnet. Hopefully those in the know could put me straight here.

If you have the 16 pin connector you shouldn't need anything else. I have been very impressed with mine so far.....

Another option is to get a kpw2000+ unit which loads onto a laptop or PC. I picked one up on ebay for £50 with all cables and software. Good thing with this is that you can use it on most vehicles. It will read all codes on my w163 and all other cars too with a socket in the dash. Plus i can read my wifes peugeot too.

Do bare in mind that these units will deal with engine and transmission faults but will do nothing specific to MB like any programming on the car and components inside
