Hi all, not posted for ages. Been really busy with the day job and sorry if you all have felt neglected. ;)

I'm due a new phone as my Orange contract is up and I fancy one of these iPhone thingys or even a top end Nokia.

Anyone know if I can either get an iPhone or N95/N96 to work in a cradle in my MB whether it be Bluetooth or a fixed cradle?

I've still got the C220 Sports Coupe Evolution. That is also due for renewal towards the end of the year but I'll likely get another MB of some variety so not fussed if I need to spend on a new cradle. I also though about getting a 2nd SIM and levaing an old Nokia 6230i in teh car with auto-power off when I exit the car, I could then have an iPhone for when walking, etc.

Would this work? Any folk with good knowledge of this help me out?

Thanks for replies in advance.

IGC.

The N95 works with the bluetooth in my E Class.

If you are getting a 204 class next, then you might want to hold out, as it has intergrated bluetooth already

How well does the Bluetooth perform and does it sync well with either the N95 and/or iPhone.

Everyone is banging on about iPhones but I want to ensure I get the best phone and also the best integration with my car as I most of the day in the car on the phone.

Would love a new shape Coupe.

I heard there are pre-production pictures doing the rounds. Anyone got any other gossip on the release of this?

If integrated Bluetooth is the norm nowadays then maybe an iPhone would be a suitable handset for me to choose?

I purchased an HFP adapter and it is a tremendous product. I have it working with my old Nokia phone and it is a dream. It does not download the address book of the new Nokia N82 that I have but I'm awaiting the new iPhone 3G in July so I'll stick with the old phone until then.

These adapters are great. I'm very happy I bought mine.

Just to add that I eventually found problems with the HFP adapter as it would continue a pairing with the handset when I left the car so I quickly punted this on eBay as I would be on the street and unable to answer calls as my car-kit was still ringing.

Why not think about a Blackberry?

I have an iphone and it will not pair with many bluetooth accessories or other phones. The bluetooth apple use is a different format I have been informed.

BlackBerry doesn't work for my business due to it not supporting the Exchange accounts that our server runs.

I'm not a great fan of iPhone either but it does appear to be just as good.

Anyway, not wanting to start a big debate on the actual handsets =) I just want to be able to talk on one without holding the thing to my ear in my car.

What BlueTooth is that? Factory fit or a 3rd party such as Viseoo?

I bought an HFP but I sent it back, it worked but was not ideal.

I use the bluetooth capabilities of my TomTom GO 520 for in car, pairs nice and quick and once out of the car I turn off the satnav breaking the pairing for walking about.

May not be the solution for you but it worked nicely for me.

I either plug the tomtom into my stereo or do it wirelessly over the integrated fm transmitter

Not sure if this helps, but I recently put the Viseeo unit into my CLS and it pairs with my Blackberry really well - I just keep the Blackberry in my pocket, as soon as I get in the car it automatically connects, when I leave the car it automatically disconnects. I don't have to do anything. Voice quality is excellent and the synch of the phonebook seems to work well too.

Can't vouch for the iPhone, but if comandonline say it will work I'd believe them and get the Viseeo.

Cheers

Jerry

The HFP/phone will drop the bluetooth connection after a short while once you are out of range of the car. This time can be specified by entering a contact in your phone book called 'Run-on time' and setting the number to the number of minutes to stay connected. The beauty of the iphone though is that if it is paired and you get an incoming call it will give you the option on the screen of using the car or the phone for the call.

Good tip Alfie.

I think I'll opt for the Viseoo 2000 over the Mercedes iPhone 3G Cradle. The only benefit to the Mercedes iPhone cradle is that it would charge my iPod but I've bought a USB cigarette charger for about £10 which I can use when on long trips and need to charge the iPhone. This is very small and can live in the ashtray without getting in the way until needed.

Is comandonline the best place to purchase from and what sort of warranty will be provided. Would they offer 'sale or return?' as I believe they are pretty confident in the products they offer.

I got a viseeo from them last week. Very happy with it and using it for my O2 XDA Ignito which whilst a great phone/pda (better than an Iphone IMO) is flipping useless when it comes to bluetooth. Doesn't pair with my Landrover or rather it does but it won't connect the audio. It works with the Viseeo just fine.

I ought to make you aware that I am one of the founders of Comand Online.

Under the distance selling regulations you are entitled in law to return the goods withion one week for any reason you choose provided they are 'as new' and in their original packaging. There are a few exceptions to this like mapping disks that have been opened. these are not covered but your cradle would be. Hope this helps.
