By the time they clear that lot any new car you buy might have been languishing out in a field for several years. Wonder whar that does to all the sensitive parts, I know what it would do to mine !

tbh i would never buy a new car, they loose way toomuch money as soon as you sign for it and are totally unrepairable at a reasonable cost.

i think they should just have a huge bonfire or drain the oil out of everyone and have a mass deep sea dumping ;)

We need people who do buy new cars so we can buy them a couple of years later at half the price.
Ive bought one new car in 01/08/92, basic 5 door ford feista at 7k so not much to lose there in depreciation unlike mine which i picked up at just over two years old after losing nearly 20k.

[rant]being a mechanic/motor engineer, i see the faults with new cars and the way manufacturers are making it harder for the indy to repair them. something has got to give somewhere along the line it has to, they are becoming so unrepairable that even the mainstealers are having a hard time finding the faults.

electrical gismo's are really not the way forward with mechanical things its a huge step backwards every single year!

One of the big drawbacks of new cars not selling, is that second hand car prices will rise, they were falling towrds the end of last year and now they are shooting up again.. People are now buying 1 and 2 yr old cars that have already lost that initial big depreciation. The other big thing that is being muted..or even pushed..there is a meeting this week with Gordy by the mushheads who think this is a good idea..a scrappage scheme for older cars..anything over 8 yrs old.. and an attempt to push people into buying new cars.. The problem being that many of todays new cars will be almost that age by the time it comes into force..

There are apparently many thousands of Mercs at MB's import centre in the US - there have been pictures shown of them.

Bear in mind that horrific though those pictures look, a car factory could easily turn out the best part of 1000 vehicles per day. Even at lower rates, a couple of thousand cars is probably only a week's production.

One consequence in the market now is that there are quite a lot of reports of factory order cars being on long delivery times due to plant closures, and discounts being impossible to get on anything that isn't a stock order. On another forum one car salesman is saying that there's a bit of row going on with their unnamed European franchise as they'll miss their targets (which costs the dealership money) due to not being able to get enough small/medium cars to meet demand.

I know very little mechanically which i would love not to be the case then i could get an older model with a bit of character but what i have noticed over my twenty odd years of driving is less and less faults are being fixed by mechanics and its more about being fitters now.
if something is broken throw is away and fit another one.

haha sometimes i wish i knew nothing of cars, but i would like to try repair something before fitting a new part. sometimes the repair can work out better than original, sometimes worse.

Those pictures remind me of the fields of TR7s at Liverpool in the 70s, I bet most of them were rotten with rust before they were delivered.
