I changed my rear pads yesterday and took a few shots of the rear suspension, which looked pretty corroded in places, plus the subframe had lots of old rusted flakey metal in the inside when scraped using a pick. Some pic below - is there anything obvious to a trained eye that needs doing? I would like to keep the car going - I know the subframe is a matter of when, not if, and hope MB will cover it when needed.
One thing i did notice were the cups where the springs sit in - looks like the metal is very corroded and flaking on one side..

Thanks

Lanoguard could help slowing down corrosion. Easy application spray.

Any advisories on the MOT ? They are usually all over it. I speak as a Land Rover owner. They are usually at pains to tell you all about corrosion, years before it is an issue. Best structural corrosion health check you can get, for £35.

last mot in March was done really quick around 30mins - only thing noted was "emissions too low to record". I'll have it checked out in another 8k when it goes to Alex Crow

would this prevent or delay the inevitable sub frame rot?

Not on the faulty ones form MB. , they rust from the inside out, and even if you fill it with wax, the rust is probably already there by now.

On normal subframes that dont fail at the welds etc, then yes.

Thanks Alex, is there any way of determining if my subframe is normal? You have seen my car a few times before I moved to Essex

Usually the bad ones have broken by now. Some specific prodding with a screwdriver around the weld spots usually shows if the metal is thin or not. By "normal" iIespecially mean the models that aren't affected like W203's etc, that just get rusty on the outside.

I'll have Alex Crow look at it at next service early 2025. Thanks
