But can anyone tell me if a 98' C180 will come under these new road tax laws in 2010 ect, eg will I have to pay £3-400.

No, the legislation only applies to cars that were given CO2 figures when new, that's 2001 onwards. Your C180 will come into the flat band of £200 which covers cars above (I think) 1600cc.

Of course the Government may well U turn on this as word spreads around. It's a ticking bomb created by inept political advisors with no brains.

Middle aging cars post 2001 plummet in value, older cars pre 2001 rise in value.
Sensible not it is!
