I@ve had a damn good search for you peter, but all is turning up blanks! Looks like Mercedes on purposely hide such information! Nearest I could legally locate is http://www.becker.de/beckerCC21/www_root/documents/4720_TrafficPro_En.pdf which is the Becker Traffic Pro unit. The Audio 30APS is basically the Traffic Pro re-packaged (model 4716 as opposed to 4720).

I have the manual, which I could scan for you, but its in German! (and Id probably be breaking copyright). If you have a question, post it and will see what I can do.

Fitting the APS 30 is pretty simple and there has been a good amount of helpful discussion on this forum.

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/se...earchid=379935

The Becker Traffic Pro is very similar. The installation guide is here:

http://www.becker.de/beckerCC21/www_...ationGuide.pdf

The wiring is ISO standard and from what I read on the web a post 1996 SL shold have speakers, speed sensor, etc in the standard connectors already. This website

http://www.audiocomp.de/

has good info on what the connectors need to do, in German but obvious, click the APS button and then the pinbelegung button.

More info on speed sensors here
http://www.delta-autotronics.com/Speedsensors.htm

The GPS aerial can be mounted under the top of the plactic dash. It mustn't be screened from the sky by metal, but plastic is OK. On my C-Class I have mounted it within the dash right on top of the centre air vents. It is totally invisible and because the APS looks just like a regular radio it doesn't attract any attention, which given GPS thefts from cars is good.

The latest software is discussed in this thread:

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/sh...ight=audio+aps

And you can get a good idea about how it works from the Becker website for the Traffic Pro 4720 which is for the non-MB vesrion of the APS.

http://www.becker.de/beckerCC21/www_...fficPro_En.pdf

I love my APS 30, a very good navigation system and with the latest CD very accurate too with nice clear instructions, great sound, the only things that are missing are TMC in GB, Post Code entry, and the TP function is a bit naff.

Best wishes

David

Peter if you havent bought a CD Changer yet, then dont bother, just get a Dension Gateway 500, it comes with all the cables etc. You connect an Ipod or a USB stick or a USB hard drive to it and it will act as a CD Changer. All depends if your techno savvy (ie. able to put music onto a USB stick).

I looked on Ebay a while back and CD changers were 100++ and then you need all the optic cables etc.

Just a thought....
