Does anyone know if the old type black & white number plates are still available and if I can replace my reflective ones for this old style.

Thinking that the old number plates can only be used for cars 1st registered with them when they were new.

Thanks,
Keith.

Black and White (white with black letters) legal on the front.

If you mean black with white letters, these are only legal on old cars.

The letters have to be half an inch apart and where there is a space they should be one and half inches apart. It's illegal to put spaces in or move letters closer at the wrong places.

Don't you just love these guys that move letters around because they can't afford a decent plate...do you think they know we are laughing at them, not with them?

Seen a few good/bad and odd plates on a few different cars. Thought Id share them

Porsche 911 Turbo with TUR8O
560SEC with LUV 130X (luvbox)
Escort Cabrio with FUC1T

What have you seen out of interest?

The simple test is - if the vehicle qualifies for historic tax status it can have the old style plates. The rules get confusing because the old style plates changed over the years so you get pre 1963 (I think) and even earlier versions.

Cant agree with the comments about laughing at people who misspace plates, I think it is wonderful and enjoy seeing the effort that goes into working out the links. That said we have three personal plates, all misspaced, but only by having no spaces at all, not sure whether that means turnipsock is laughing at me or not.

There used to be a fairly battered old Ferrari 400i near my house with the number BOL11X which I found pretty amusing.

how about this one??????

Hi Nicky,

Superb.

I actully saw quite a sad one the other day. I was on my stag weekend in deepest rural kent and the country pub we visited had a black XKR Convertible outside with the registration "K1 NKY". Turned out this belonged to the owner's son. Anyway, maybe he was kinky but to me it was a bad case of TMI (Too Much Information). Put me off my beer it did.
