Is it possible that it may be getting thru to them that the motoring lobby may just be worth listening to

It will be a first if they do, but lets hope they see some sense.
Labour got a good kicking & lost Scotland in the last election, results in England have been very poor since, if they want to stay in power, drastic action is called for, so maybe they are listening?

I just put this elsewhere here on a different thread:

Just listening to radio 4, It appears that bus companies get 41p rebate on their diesel. Truckers want a 25p rebate.

What about us?

They now have the cheek to put up the spurious argument that the percentage of tax has dropped due to the increase in the oil price !!!!! and so the tax should be increased accordingly to maintain parity!!!!.
(VAT, the tax on tax?).

I'm particularly p'd off by the standing charge (VED) being pushed up to the top bands!!!

As a management policy, the proposers must have IQ's which struggle to reach double figures.

MP's think that Joe Public is as thick as they are.

What about all the 'spin' regarding their so-called 'expenses'? A big brew-ah-ah amongst the Public - and this shower of sh!te just ignores the protests. The same will go for fuel. Don't you believe for one second, that ANY concession will result in a Public 'win' - for as sure as night follows day, 'they' will simply find another way of extracting your cash.

Why does everyone assume that the current goverment wants to win the next election?

Its bad now and its going to get worse before it gets better so they are quite happy for another party to take the blame while the problems are sorted out.

What really annoys me about "Green Taxes" is that there is no sign of any of the tax revenue being used to alleviate traffic congestion and pollution.

In Europe vast amounts of freight travels by rail in standard sized shipping containers but this is not possible in the UK because of a lack of investment in railways!

We are told to leave our cars at home but there is no investment in public transport in rural areas so we don't have a choice. I have a pensioners bus pass which is great when I come to London but not a lot of use in most of rural Worcestershire where buses are almost as rare as police patrols.

blown it

Conservatives have held power for about two thirds of the last 100 years or so, but when the Labour Party have had chance of power in the intervening years they have blown it.

Let's start in 1945, when they conned the returning troops from Europe by the promise of a new Jerusalem resulting in a landslide victory at the polls. Three months later, after the Japanese surrender, the Americans withdrew all financial support so they had no money to afford their promises - this country was bankrupt. The consequence was to go cap in hand to the USA for money to fulfil their promises and save their bacon - the welfare state was built on the foundation of American money.

Through the years in power, the Labour Government has thrown money at anything that 'ails' the nation, leaving any Conservative Government to pick up the pieces, as with Margaret Thatcher in 1979, taking over the failed regime of Callaghan where it was better to be paid dole money because it was more than strike pay.

This brings us to the present. Yes, there has been some improvements in living standards but that would have happened any way. It's the law of averages, but when there are questions to be asked of this present regime the answer once again is to throw money at it and to use this now famous phrase: We are listening. Well, if they are, they should put Noddy in No 10 he's got bigger ears

They have to find other ways of extracting our cash, due to the previously mentioned habit of throwing cash at everything.
In short they're brassic.

But not TOO 'brassic' to demand a £38K pay rise - and guess who votes for the proposals - correct, the thieving MP's themselves.!

Oh, and don't forget the £23k annual TAX FREE, Expenses Allowance - again, voted for by themselves.

I wonder if it's too late for the public to propose that MP's are subject to Performance-related pay - applicable AFTER they have been voted in?

No, No, No - leave the jaw-sucking, thistle-chewing idiot where he is. The longer he squats at No 10, the more likely he is to lead his Party to a Glorious Defeat at the Ballot Box.

"Of course we understand the concerns consumers face, but we also need to take into account the need to ensure economic stability, to fund public services and to promote energy efficiency," the Prime Minister's spokesman said.

In other words we need the money because we've wasted so much of it already.

Such as:

Paying farmers NOT to grow crops - under the 'set-aside' agreement

Paying for homes, clothes, food etc for ILLEGALS

Scraping the 10p Tax Band

Paying MPs their so-called 'expenses'

etc etc etc etc etc
