I have just taken my car (1988 W124C) for a service (not at the normal place, which I am now regretting!) and during the time the car was in for its service, something has caused the ASD warning light to stay on.

I have just spun the wheels reversing on my driveway (its wet, seemed like a good way to test it) and low and behold, the triangle in the centre dial did not come on. This may be because the sensors dont work in reverse, but I dont know.

My question, is there anything that they could have done/nudged/knocked/drained in the service which could cause this light to stay on., and is there any way of testing to see whether the ASD system is actually functioning, other than spinning the wheels?

Thanks in advance

Scott,

Is the ASD lamp illuminating continuously?

If it is the system will not work, the garage may have put the vehicle on a rolling road for a brake test, this may have confused the ASD system and entered a fault in the control unit memory causing the lamp to come on.

In most cases all that will be required is this fault to be erased.

If the garage was an MB dealer just return it to them and complain, if not
any MB dealer can do it with their blink code tester, may only make a 0.4 hour charge.

Yeah, it is on all the time.

I did wonder if they may have done that. They have a rolling road on the end of their hydraulic lift, and with it being RWD and an automatic, he may have managed to cock things up slightly.

I take it the car still is fine to drive, and I have just lost the active part of the ASD system. Gonna book it into a MBZ dealer when I find a convenient one. Just moved jobs, hence the non usual place for the service.

Thx.
