The ASR warning light has come on permanently.

My mechanic (who I trust) has said it requires a new relay but at MB price of £400 +suggested I leave it and take care flooring it in ice/gravel :)

I have heard of dirty ABS sensors causing problems but are they actually linked to the ASR unit?

Many thanks

Your Mercedes
A diesel
The sensors are used for ABS and ASR as they measure wheel speed.

Hi

Are you sure is ASR & not ASD. The systems are different. I would assume that the relevant fault codes have been read & the relevant tests carried out to come to this conclusion.

As for ABS sensors. You should have them tested. Sometimes & especially on later cars. The readings are not out far enough to cause a problem with the ABS. But will cause problem with other systems. Like ASR,ETS etc. If it is ASD.Try disconnect the relay for ten minutes or so. Also is it the warning triangle on or the actual ASR light at the bottom of the clocks. Otherwise it could be the axle.

Anyway more info is required.

Hello Andy,

Must confess to still being confused about whether it is ASD or ASR and what exactly the difference is!

I'll double check this evening but I am pretty sure it's ASR and it's the warning light under the clock (r. side) that is now on permanenetly. The warning triangle betweeen the clocks would flash briefly when it operated such as a quick take off on ice/grass/gravel. I understand it's a low speed LSD type device for traction on slippy surfaces

The vehicle is a late '92 190E 2.6
