Anyone know if the W208 cab year 2000 has a Athermic Windscreen? Want to fit a GPS camera detector (to stay safe!) but need to know about the windscreen. It wont work otherwise.........

I doubt it. Isn't "athermic" just a fancy name for a heated windscreen. If so I haven't seen any although some people have mentioned it on the newer S classes. I guess you'll know if you have a heated screen. Lots of us have tomtom GPS recievers (same technology) on the dash and they work fine.

If you are buying from a shop as it were, get them to rig one up in your car for a test! if it works you can buy one, if it dont there aint much point.

i think some companys make them with the senors that fit elsewhere in your car but i am not an expert on this.

You can also email or ring the company who makes the one you are interested. they should have some knowledge about it at least.

What makes you think you screen was heated. It could have thermal glass (heat insulating glass) though (as an extra). This would require you put a tiny flat aerial on the roof or some where outside.

Code 691 would denote that you had this option, or code 693 with grey band (w210)

If you don't have all the codes. Put your VIN no in here, and you'll get them all:

Fine wire grid in rear windscreen

Hi all

Can any member confirm whether the two vertical wires in my rear windscreen and near the centre, about 10 inches apart, is part of the heating element and are not part of (say) the radio antenna. I realise the horizonal wires are heating elements.

If they aren't, do MBs use electronic antennas because my car doesn't have a visible whip/stub antenna protruding from any part of the chassis. Receiption is terrific though.

REGARDS Phil

The aeriel is built into the back screen.

Older ones have rear electric telescopic ones, as have convertables. (Suppose they wouldn't be much good folded in the back)

Your camera detector should work fine, my Road Angel is OK in my 2001 W208. However, I'm not over impressed with the operation of the unit, it doesn't know where you are like a satnav system (road, street, etc), just if the car is pointing in the general direction of a camera. Lots of false alarms especially on motorways.
Hope this helps, Steve.

hmm buy the time you've detected the gun/box then it's usually too late (or may be that's my lead right boot)
suggest you try sat nav with updateable speed camera detector mapping and timed section warning - speed camera detectors are illegal in France cand be confiscated and fined but not when hidden in sat nav.....tom tom via pda's feeds well into the stero auto changer slot on most stero's to give warnings sat nav and mp3 via the car stero.. good luck ....if you are going to be flying consided a jammer as well
