Any of you know whether the Mercedes CD autochanger for the Audio 10cassette radio in my 99 E Class has the fibre optic cable connection to the head unit??

99 was the year that the cars changed, if you have fibre optic, the lead to to the changer is bright Orange.

Sorry, my original post was a little bit confusing. I currently don't have a cd changer and was thinking of installing one. Does the car come prewired with an optic cable or will I need to buy one separately??

Your car will come pre wired for Opic or analogue. if you look in the boot floor well, by the rear of the wheel arches the cables and plugs should be there. Cant remember if its left or right on your car, as said before if there is an orange lead its fibre optic.
