audio 10/dealer test

apol's for poor format - quick note in the between other things.

i recently bought a used a class which has an audio 10 cd player fitted.

it was displaying 'wait' - sorted (leave on stage II of ingition switch for a hour or so)

it is now displaying 'code' - our local dealer ship (north london) told my wife to contact a local car audio shop who'll sort it out for her.

i called mercedes in coventry (random I know but someone at work said they were helpful) who are happy to help and told me the stereo was a post sale dealer fit, so the code i need is against the unit serial nbr, not the car reg.

it'll be interesting to see if north london will help even with the unit code.

one problem - how on earth do I get the thing out to get the nbr ?

I havent got the tool (it looks like there 2 small 'slits' near the bottom corners to insert some sort of tool)

Sorry to hear your trouble. You can get the removal keys most easily on ebay, or some audio shops.

If possible, your best bet would be to contact the previous owner and ask for the code. To my knowledge, it's not possible to get the code by serial number. There is a fellow in Scotland who says he can retrieve the code if you send the unit to him. Here's his link:

The units are made by Becker and it should definately be possible to find the original code from the serial number (since the codes are fixed at production and are not user changeable), if you give it to a dealer or through Becker:

The removal keys are also easily obtained from a dealer for about £2.
