I have an audio 10 single cd stereo, I managed to get the radio working by changing the fuse but whenever I try to play a cd it says loading, then cds err. I've tried a few different disks, propper ones not copies, even tried putting it in upside down, just in case, but no joy. Any ideas? The car is a 2001 C240. Thanks in advance.

Chances are the laser has had, it or there is a mechanical fault inside. You should be able to get it repaired.

Such a shame. I felt really proud of myself for actually making the radio work, even though it was only a fuse, I was hoping I would be able to make the cd work myself as well. If I must get someone else to look at it, so be it....

You can buy disks to clean the inside? I looked a couple of years ago after my home system stopped working & all I could find were things that cleaned the cds. Thanks for that, got to be worth a shot.

You would do better by removing the top of the case and clean the laser with a cotton bud and lighter fuel.

Do not press down too hard or the suspension will be damaged,,,this does not matter if the laser has failed

I had a look at a description of how to remove the cd player ( before I thought to look at the fuse) & it looked terribly complicated & like something I could quite easily get wrong so I think I'm probably better off trying the simple option first. Bearing in mind the most I've ever done on a car myself is change a wheel opening the bonnet to get to the fuses was quite an adventure!

make sure you get a price for a repair before you commit

You can get another used Audio 10 from £50-100 on e-bay. Bear that in mind when considering the quote from the repairer. Ok it will be a used unit, but that's what you have at the moment.
