Hi,

I've recently bought a 2005 CLK220CDi, it has an Audio 20 fitted, but I was not supplied with a code.

Can anyone tell me if the Audio 20 requires a code or not?

Thanks

As from about 2001 all MB radio's etc are coded once from new, so you do not need a code

my 2003 v class needs a code to reset when the power is diconnected.

often the code is in the front of the service book. Failing that the supplying dealer may have a record or will be able to find out by chassis number

My 2002 SLK 170 also definitely requires a code for the Audio 10 CD player, it's stamped on a plastic credit card which tucks into a little flap inside the leather Mercedes case for the manuals and documents.

I once bought a Rover without a code and just got it from a main dealer, had to prove I owned the car (V5, driving licence & utility bill I think), no cost though which was good.

Hope this helps

My C270 originally had an Audio 20 fitted, no code required.

Thanks for the reply Malcolm,

although other replies (thanks guys) suggest a code is required, I've checked the manual for the audio 20 and the cars handbook and there is no mention of needing a code or even how to enter it if required. My son has just bought a new Seat Leon and when picking it up last week he was told the radio was assigned a code when first fitted to the vehicle and it nevers needs to be entered again. I'm assuming the CLK is similiar? I will be passing the MB dealers on Friday and will ask them to confirm one way or the other.

Thanks all
Russ

I remove the battery from my w203 almost on a daily basis last week and it never needs a code, does it mean that the radio has to be completely remove the car before it needs a code?, if so what a good idea, makes it useless for any one trying to steal it.

Not sure yet how it works yet with Mercedes, but I did have a Nissan X-Trail and the radio/CD unit had a chip in it that was linked to the ECU. Basically, the radio would only work with the vehicle it was originally fitted to. If I get an answer from the MB dealer on Friday, I'll post it here.

Thanks, I did read post number 5, but when so many people give the opposite advice, it's hard to know who is right.

Thanks again

The point here is if it needs a code it will ask for it, on the front

The reason I was asking, as I was not supplied with a code, was what would happen if the battery was flat. After a jump start, would the radio be looking for a code?
Some people are saying a code is not necessary, other say it is, conflicting information.
As far as I'm aware, I have been given all the original handbooks, manuals and paperwork that the car came with new, and none of them mention radio codes, so I'm inclined to agree that none is required.

Thanks

A quick call tomorrow to your local dealer will put your mind a ease!

I phoned the local dealer today & asked for the code in case I had a flat battery and the radio stopped working. They told me my Audio 20 does not have a code that they can give me, instead, after a flat battery or for whatever other reason it did not work, it would have to be brought to a Mercedes dealer to have the radio reprogrammed on a Star machine.

Does that sound right to anyone?

Sounds okay to me. These units wont work in any other car so there is little point in having a code.
