(To Arnie, your PM quota is full and so have used the forum for this question.)
While my Audio APS 30 package is in transit from GE, I rang the local ICE shop who sucked their teeth when I asked if they would install a CAN bus interface loom to get a speed signal and function my installation. They have 4 looms in stock made by Hunter at a price of £130 each. The guy said their policy was not to work on OEM units on Mercedes as they would not guarantee the outcome. I sense he was concerned that I would give him a hard time if for ANY reason the install did not work. He finally agreed that he would install the interface to bring a speed signal to the connector block and that it would involve taking wires from the ignition switch area. They would not connect up the unit to prove functionality. I thought the loom price was quite high, but his labour for the work at £35 (1 hour) was good.
I then rang MB dealer parts for a CAN bus loom price. They did not sound very familiar with the challenge and promised to come back to me when their audio(ish) man had looked into the catalogues and found the item. Labour rate will no doubt be ITOO £85 + VAT !
Don't suppose anyone could recommend a trusted outfit who are really confident with this sort of job, perhaps to fit the antenna and interface and test at a reasonable price ? Happy to drive 60 miles if a strong recommendation.
This assumes the unit arrives in one piece tomorrow thru the post !
