Help My car stero guy tells me he cannot fit my Kenwood system to my 2001 CLK as it has cambus wiring. He cannot get a switchable live feed. Any advice?

I believe there are several feeds on the accessory circuit, including from memory, the cig lighter and the glovebox light. Just see what works and what doesn't when the accessory feed is on.

I also wouldn't have thought they would use the cambus for this, that is for passing data to the display amongst other things.

Hmmm, sounds a bit odd to me. Do you simply want a feed that is live from the ignition but not normally live with the ignition off??

Thanks guys. Solution appear to be take a feed from cig lighter.

Anyone an idea on how to replace the rear speaker?

They appear to be pointing into the boot. Fitter cannot work out how to remove them

I think i would take the car to someone else,if he cant remove speakers or find a live wire he should not be working on your car.

Can Bus

Hi

I think your man means CAN bus, but this is only a way off ECU's talking to each other there are many constant 12v feeds and circuit 15 ( ignition 12 volts) I would have to agree with sue this guy probably couldn't switch it on once he had fitted it

Does the can bus not allow the remote buttons on the steering to be used. Also I think that cars with Comand get there info via can bus and its used for passing info to display on others. There is a connector available to allow non can bus equipment connect to a cars radio can bus terminal.

You could of course take switchable live from cigarette lighter, and your pernament live direct from the fuse box. You will need a pernament live if you want your electric aeriel to retract after leaving car.

Also I think (not sure) that the CD changer is controlled via the can-bus

Hi,
Thanks for reminding me why I am fitting my speakers and new amp myself :(
I would take your car back and give the trunk monley a bag of peanuts for the effort put in so far :D

Seriously though, you would have been better off with halfords because at least they will pay to sort out any damage they cause while guessing the solution :(
Electrics in an MB are very expensive to fix and you don't want some clown shorting something...

Good luck though

there will be pin 1 of the iso connector that is normal ignition 12v and also constant 12v too on (i think pin 4). Just use these.

canbus wont make a difference.... u just wont be able to connect up the can hi-lo wires meaning no control via the steering wheel, but the unit will work as it should do.

You need a permanent live and an ignition switched live, plus a ground. Also a feed from the lights circuit for your illumination. Once you've found these you can install any stereo. Just buy a multimeter and get cracking!
