Mercedes A-Class 250e AMGG 2022
Hi chaps
I've just purchased a 22 plate Mercedes A-Class 250e AMG on the 30th of May 2022

I'm looking for a bit of advice, first time on the forum.

I was fully expecting the expecting the car to have augmented reality navigation, and the salesman didn't make it clear it didn't have.

I think maybe I bought it in a little bit of haste, but of course I am sure you all know they're like gold dust.

One Mercedes dealer in Grimsby, told me they were taking orders now for March delivery next year

Anyway got the car home, later on decided to try the augmented navigation, guess what it's not showing on the navigation screen

Immediately telephoned the dealer, (Listers of Lincoln) who told me that have been discontinued in 2021.

Most disappointed as this was one of the top 5 reasons for buying the car.

Also just charged the car up to 100% only showing 30 miles range. Is this normal for the time of year

Apart from that it's an absolutely brilliant car and I love it

Can anyone confirm this, or give me advice on the matter, also the possibility to have it retrofitted to the car.
Thanks
Mick W

Hello and welcome,

Yes the Augmented reality navigation was discontinued - it's been raised on the forum previously - please have a search

In respect of the battery range if you get half of what is advertised you're doing well

no idea if the feature drop is happening on Mercedes - but the global silliness played out on the back of covid - means many models across most brands are devoid of original electronic toys

big thing in the motoring press about it - there will be a gut of cars worldwide without features the handbook says you should have - the manu "couldn't" get the parts, so held up production as long as they dared / hoped to get away with to make the scam work - and just built budget cars devoid of stuff one's two trim ranges beneath used to have - it means many owners less informed / observant than yourself - will have cars in two to three years time with residual prices some 3k beneath what they believed they bought - as savvy car dealers wont want to touch them

It appears to be a game in play by the manufacturers - invent a chip shortage (and or operate your business so badly suppliers get you back when they can) and sell cars at a high price yet missing lots of features - then put some capital behind dealers buying back high spec secondhand cars at more than they sold them secondhand 2 years ago - as a scam to try and drive up residual prices - won't work longer term as their designed to die in 4 years philosophy has killed the industry - alongside the planet

It’s very hit and miss with regards availability of augmented reality, I have a 2021 GLC that does have and the new C Classes will have it but most of current E Classes don’t have it.

It is pretty nice and works well at traffic lights when normally you SRP train your neck to see if the lights have changed it is shown on the screen very useful.

I tend to look at the bright lights on the big poles out of my windscreen…
You can even see the glow of the other traffic lights (even with shielding hoods on) so you can prepare for yours changing state.
AR and VR is all very good until it’s not…

Yes as already said augmented reality navigation is no longer a thing on Mercedes and not featured in the online brochures since early 2021, and longer in some cases.
When I was buying my CLA 250 ordered in January 2020 it was a standard feature, but before I took delivery my dealer informed me that the feature had been suspended by Mercedes and nobody knew when or if it would be reinstated.
When I ordered my CLA 35 in September 2021 this wasn't a consideration because the feature was not offered or even mentioned in any brochures.

Thanks Ron240
I'm really disappointed by this, and intend to phone MB HQ tomorrow, to register a complaint. I'll let you know if I have any success

Of course you can try but honestly I think you will be wasting your time, because they will just say that augmented reality has not been a feature that is offered on Mercedes cars for some time now.
It would have been a different story if you told your salesman that it was a feature you wanted and he confirmed that your car had it.

On my first car I had been looking forward to seeing how augmented reality works, but I would probably have ended up seeing it as a gimmick.
I can say that with reasonable confidence because in the 17 months I owned that car and the 8 months I've owned my currernt car I have never used the navigation even once. :D
It is nice to see the map display the same as yours that is on all the time though. :geek:

I'm going to ask question could it be fitted as a retrofit?

But not if you are right at the front of the queue.

I remember years ago I had an Austin A35 (yup I’m that old) it had pants brakes, awful tyres and did 0 to 60 in 3 days, I tend to embrace technology although most of it is beyond me.

You mean there are other positions?

The lights are placed so you can see them from “P1” otherwise it’s a bit of a safety issue and the police and highways get upset.

Unless you’re rolling over the white line into the cycle zone then you should be able to see the light on the left, the one on the right or one straight ahead. I admit to liking the French habit of placing small repeaters low down, however that is nothing more than a “nice to have”

some traffic lights in France and most in Italy get a secondary set of lights at the correct height for the first few drivers to actually see what's happening - should be compulsory everywhere

if I was transport minister first steps

1) junction count down markers in the central reservation - LIKE ITALY
2) secondary support at eye level on traffic lights - LIKE ITALY
3) all kerb stones to be 45 degree ASARP (with big penalty for those being stupid about it/ parking badly)
4) change focus toward driving with inappropriate speed and training
5) allow anyone to knock off any cyclist if they appear to be over 12 years of age and being a nuisance on the road
