Auto box sticking

Hi I have a c220 2012 sport and the engine management light came on and the car is sticking in gear,I've turned it off and back on but still doing it and when I select drive it thumps into gear,also I can't put it in manual or sports mode ots just stuck in 2nd gear and managed to limp it home

I had a similar problem with my 05 year transmission which turned out to be the conductor plate inside the gearbox sump.

Second that , classic signs 2nd and reverse only.
Before they go full limp as above they usually stick in a gear or don't change properly or generally act weird but restarting the vehicle cures it.

As a first step, get it scanned....ASAP. See what that tells you ( or the mechanic who scans it for you) then you will have an idea of the best course of action. It's the only way really.
